The Canterbury Community Association, a vibrant community-oriented organization, is located in the Alta Vista Ward of the City and operates from the Canterbury Community Centre.

The Canterbury Community Association will be pleased to welcome you at the Canterbury Community Centre, located in Ottawa’s Alta Vista Ward.

The centre is city-owned and forms part of the Canterbury Recreational Complex, which also includes the Brian Kilrea Arena and the Canterbury Pool.

What’s the Canterbury Community Association?

Non-profit corporation with approved Constitution and Bylaws.

A volunteer executive committee is responsible for running the organization. It is elected each October at its Annual General meeting.

What is the Association doing?

Accessible programming that is affordable for all ages, including adult and senior fitness, children’s after-school care, adult and senior fitness, karate, and the Canterbury Dance Centre (tap and jazz, hip hop, and ballet) for children.

Special events can be hosted by the host, such as a Christmas Craft Fair November and a Spring Indoor Garage Sale April.

Represents the community’s interests in areas such as traffic, budgets, urban planning, and site plans.

Sponsors municipal events, such as All Candidates Meetings during municipal election.

Significant contributions to the renovation of facilities at the Canterbury Community Centre.

Capital equipment purchase for the Centre and contribution to its life-cycle cost.

Financial assistance is available for community improvements, such as the purchase of playground equipment.

A scholarship program that recognizes the importance of community involvement.

 

The Canterbury Community Centre has:

  • Four multipurpose rooms are available for small gatherings and meetings.

  • A main hall with a kitchen is available for large events, such as birthday parties and social functions.

  • Two adjustable-height basketball nets in one gymnasium

  • A dance studio that can also be used as a yoga and fitness studio.

  • An outdoor covered ice pad will provide year-round recreation opportunities

The City of Ottawa offers swimming and skating lessons.

CCA is proud that it can partner with the City of Ottawa in order to offer city residents a comprehensive program schedule for all ages. This programming schedule is delivered in a safe and caring environment by experienced instructors.

CCA believes that it should work with community partners to provide the programming and services that local residents deserve.

The Canterbury Recreation Complex is the perfect place for your recreational needs. It boasts a 25-metre, five-lane swimming pool with sauna and a NHL-sized ice rink at the Brian Kilrea Arena. The pool offers many aquatic programs, including aquafitness, swimming lessons, and public swims. 

The Canterbury Recreation Complex offers many programs for all ages. The partnership with the Canterbury Community Association, (CCA) allows children’s and adults programs to be offered to the Canterbury community. These programs include an after-school program, senior and adult fitness programs, and art, dance, and martial arts programs for all ages.
