The Jack Purcell Recreation Association is an incorporated, not-for-profit organization that offers programs at the community center in partnership with Jack Purcell Community Centre. JPRA offers recreational activities and leisure activities to Centretown’s youth, adults and children through the Community Centre.

The City of Ottawa owns and operates the Jack Purcell Community Centre. The Centre features a pool, a weight room that is fully accessible, five meeting rooms, and access to the Elgin Street Public School’s gym. The Centre also manages Jack Purcell and St. Luke’s Parks as well as both the tennis courts in these parks. Swimming lessons, senior activities, and programs for people with special needs are all offered by the City of Ottawa.

Our Board of Directors

A volunteer board of directors governs the Jack Purcell Recreation Association. They are elected at the Annual General meeting in May along with the President. The Executive, which includes Vice-President and Treasurer, is manned by volunteers from the board. The board elects the Chairs of both the Programming and Marketing Committees.

The Jack Purcell Community Centre is centrally located in Ottawa. It has an 18-metre warm water pool that offers both regular aquatic programming as well as specialized programs for people with disabilities. Access to a nearby school gym, a fully accessible weight area, and five meeting rooms in various sizes are also available at the facility.

Jack Purcell offers many programs for seniors and people with disabilities. The Centretown community has access to both children’s and adults programs through a partnership with Jack Purcell Recreation Association. These programs include an after-school program, camps for children, an adult fitness program, adult art, dance, yoga, as well as programs that support sports.

The following facilities are also available, which can be used seasonally:

  • Community Garden

  • Outdoor Skating Rink: This is the neighbourhood’s outdoor skating rink. It is located behind the community center, just off Elgin Street. This outdoor activity is a great outdoor winter activity for residents of Centretown. There’s a change area and outside lighting. The outdoor skating season starts in December and lasts until February, weather permitting.

  • Tennis Court: Off Frank St. And Metcalfe
